Working with the Dashboard

Dashboard Overview

When you select Dashboard from the sidebar, you'll see a quick overview of your Castit environment and the current status of your digital signage network.

Review Opportunities
A banner at the top invites you to leave a review on platforms such as G2 and Capterra. When your review is published, Castit credits your account with free player licenses (for example, 3 months of free licenses per platform). Click Review on G2 or Review on Capterra to get started.

Player Status Overview
See a summary of your player network, including:

  • Total number of players
  • How many players are online
  • How many players are offline

A Manage players shortcut is also available to jump straight to the Players section.

Player Locations Map
View the geographic locations of your players on a map. If a player has a location set in the Players section, it will appear here, helping you visualize where your screens are deployed. Until a location is set, the map shows "No player locations set yet."

Castit News and Updates
The news section shows the latest blog posts from the Castit website, including:

  • Product updates
  • New features
  • Digital signage tips
  • Guides and best practices

Working with Screens

Screen List View

When you select Screens from the sidebar, you'll see:

Screens Overview Here you'll find a complete overview of all your screens, including their names, tags, availability, and player status. When the new permissions features are active, screen cards also show a department label (which department the screen belongs to) and a draft label (when the screen has unpublished changes waiting for review). See Permissions, Departments & Drafts.

Filtering and Sorting Options:

  • Tags row - Filter screens by tag; All tags shows everything, or click an individual tag.
  • Groups row - Filter by department/group; All groups shows everything, or click a group (such as Marketing). This row appears once departments are enabled.
  • Filter by dropdown - Filter by screen status (All, Has Players, No Players, Available, etc.).
  • Sort by dropdown - Sort screens by Name, Created, Number of Players, etc.
  • Sort direction - Arrow button to toggle ascending/descending order.
  • View toggle - Switch between Grid and List views.
  • Select all / Delete items - Select multiple screens for bulk deletion.

Each screen card shows its thumbnail, AVAILABLE status, name, tags, online player count (for example, 0/1 online), andβ€”when departments are onβ€”a department label.

Action Buttons:

  • Create screen button (top-right) - Add a new screen.

Screen Detail View

When you open a screen, you'll see tabs for different functions:

  1. Screen contents - Manage what displays on the screen
  2. Players - Pair and manage player devices (the tab shows the paired/online count, e.g. 1/1)
  3. Settings & Info - Configure screen settings
  4. Availability - Set when the screen is active
  5. Schedule - Create time-based content schedules
  6. Admin settings - Administrator-only screen configuration

The Screen contents tab includes:

  • A Total duration readout and per-item Duration fields.
  • Grid / List view toggle.
  • A right-hand panel with Playlist, Library, Apps, and Slides tabsβ€”search and click + to add items, or drag and drop them onto the canvas. An upload icon lets you upload new files without leaving the screen.

Top-right actions on a screen include Delete, Preview, and Pair player. Rename the screen with the pencil icon next to its name.

Working with Playlists

Playlists are loops of content you can reuse across multiple screens.

Playlist List View

When you open a playlist, you'll see three tabs:

  1. Playlist contents - Manage the items in the loop

The Playlist contents tab works like the screen content editor: a Live / Draft toggle, a Total duration readout, a Grid / List view toggle, and a right-hand panel with Library, Apps, and Slides tabs. Search and click + to add items, or drag and drop them onto the canvas.

Creating a Playlist

  • Add items from Library, Slide Creator (Slides), or Apps.

  • The contents tab shows total duration and per-item durations; rename via the title pencil.

Availability and Usage

  • Availability: Always, Date range, or Custom schedule.
  • Add to a screen: open a screen β†’ Screen contents β†’ Playlist β†’ +.

  • Uploaded - Files you've uploaded.
  • Slides - Slides made in Slide Creator.
  • Stock - Free stock media you can pull in.

Uploading Content

The Upload file button (top-right) opens a window with multiple upload sources, or you can drag and drop files straight onto the page (a drop zone reads "Drop files here to upload, or use the 'Upload file' button"):

  • Local Upload - Click to browse or drag and drop files from your device. Multi-file uploads supported.
  • Cloud Storage - Upload directly from Google Drive, Google Photos, OneDrive, or Dropbox. Sign in once to connect; the link stays active for future uploads.

  • Filter with the category chips: All apps, Your favorites, News, Other, Social Media, Updated, and New.
